If this were UK we'd have whatever coach we wanted by now and certainly wouldn't have the humiliation of how Weaver handled the press conference. What a disaster.
Even Jim Rome is trashing the Hokies over this on Twitter:

Excuse me...first of all, who gives a crap about Jim Rome. Secondly, my child was a student athlete at UK and our family supports UK sports enthusiastically. But you, my friend, are being obnoxious and need to give it a rest.
Jim Weaver couldn't have handled Seth Greenberg's firing any worse. SG had no idea what the presser was about when I asked him about it.
This is why you will always be #2 to UVa in state, and #5 overall after them and the CAA schools.
Excuse me, but who gives a crap what Jim Rome says. Secondly, my kid was a student-athlete at UK and my family supports UK sports enthusiastically. However, you, my friend, are being obnoxious and need to get lost if you're here to "flame."
I think that the biggest stumbling block just might be the "no buyout" clause, not the cash. I think VT could come up with the money, but if they're going to invest top dollar up front, I think that they're going to want to be sure that if things work out well, Shaka can't just pull up and leave with no remuneration at all to VT.
As it should be! I believe the no buy clause would even hurt Coach Smart's ability to recruit at VT. What player would be excited to come play for a coach that might be gone tomorrow if another school came calling?
You either want to be here and you make a commitment or you don't. I'd like to have him but not if we are a stepping stone. Next!
Why? How many chances does a guy get to coach an ACC team in his home state?
Just to point out, he's not from Virginia. He's from Wisconsin. He's only been in VA for 3 years or so. Unless he feels settled and doesn't want to move far I can't see that having any bearing on the decision.
Well Shaka did have dinner with some high ranking VT officials last night at Shulas. It was more of an interview of VT than it was for Shaka. They have let it be known the job is HIS if he wants it. It appears the major stumbling block here is money for not only Shaka but his assistants. He wants to be paid top dollar and frankly thats the money he deserves. He also wants a no buyout out clause if Uconn or UK comes open within the next 3 years.
There is certainly mutual interest but I'd put the likelihood of this at 30%. I just don't see VT putting up the kind of cash which is needed. Shaka coached a scrimmage game at Tech last year and was VERY impressed with the campus.
