For the record, I don't think the administration has a big problem with Greenberg, and I don't think he'd be cut loose anytime soon...nor do I think he should be
but I pose a question to the rest of you. As realistic as possible, if you were the AD or on a search committee, who would you bring in?
some things to consider:
- the amount of money it would take to buy out Greenberg's contract
- the amount of money VT is willing to spend on a basketball coach and his staff
- location of Virginia Tech and how it relates to recruiting (bury your head in the sand on this one if you want, it's a big issue, especially with basketball being more of an urban game)
- a realistic view of what Virginia Tech Basketball is and what it can be (and what it WAS, for that matter)
a graduate of VT, I love my university...but I'm working at a different school now and get to look at the program a little more objectively...I got to talk to one former VT head coach about the struggles he faced at VT and the issues I raised above were all things he listed in his inability to take the program as high as he would've liked
they're also issues that many coaches have also expressed about why they'd be hesitant to work at VT...and they're also issues as to why I'd be hesitant to return home to VT and coach (if I'm ever fortunate enough to get to that level)
so fellow VT fans...who would you get to realistically replace Greenberg? Could he surpass what Greenberg has done and/or live up to the fans expectations?
Also, for the record, I worked at VT for a stint and Greenberg couldn't have been nicer to me, and I know many current and former players who would say the same...
