VA.H.S. hoops does produce some really nice kids every couple of years.
Several Pros in fact.
And VT basically guts shunned by all of them.
Go fig' on that?
I don't think that has anything at all to do with Seth. In football, we should have it easy in recruiting... we are the best team in the mid-atlantic region (and we still somehow struggle). In basketball, its a totally different story. We have regional competition against GREAT programs with tons of history and tradition. I honestly can't come up with a single logical reason why any recruit should choose us over Duke, UNC, or Georgetown. Hell, even NC State, Wake Forest and WVU crush us in basketball tradition. Its just not realistic to think we should steal any kids from the first 3 schools mentioned, and pretty rare that we should be stealing anyone from the latter 3 types.
I wish we could get some of the great in-state talent. But it all comes back to how bad VT hoops used to be, pre-SG. The kids in-state who grow up liking VT probably only like VT football..... and either UNC or Duke basketball. It sucks, but thats the way it is. We don't have the basketball tradition to compete with those close-by schools, and regardless of who our coach is, that is never going to change.
Don't waste your time, The Greenberg haters will always fly that flag. It doesn't have to make sense, but they will still ignore every reasoned fact against their claim and shout about the injustice that Greenberg committed. All because Seth Greenberg was born outside of SW Va and speaks honestly to the media. That insults a lot of people on here and their little minds will never absorb the fact there could be another way than the one they envision. They don't like him because he's a Northerner, because Jim Weaver hired him, because he is blunt, because any number of reasons. A lot of people on here, some with more clout than others if you know what I mean, totally dislike Seth Greenberg and never miss a chance to slide in a dig at him. They will NEVER like him. I just choose to ignore their ignorance.
This is what a lot of people said about the 2010-2011 team in 2008.
I am guessing thats before "a lot of people" knew JT Thompson, Dorenzo Hudson, and countless others would not play last season? Look at the circumstances.... not just the record. Teams don't just lose some of their best players to injury for the season and magically have the same results they would have had WITH those players....
