Is Curt Newsome good at at least one thing?

It's pretty obvious he SUCKS at coaching and a high school student can coach a better offensive line than Newsome.
So why did Beamer retain him for so long?
Was he at least popular with the guys as Stinespring was?
Did he want the best for our kids and want them to graduate and get a degree?
Is he an awesome human being?

what other than his football skills (lack of) did Beamer see in that guy?

He was hired to recruit Tyrod, and then Beamer was loyal to him.

He fit the profile of who CFB wanted on his staff prior to last years hires. It seems like after Beamer had built the program in the 90s, he wanted people who had a personal interest in VT football succeeding and who would be committed to him and the program. That meant either coaches he had worked with in the past and had a prior relationship (O'Cain, Bud, Wiles), VT graduates (Grey, Cornell, Shane), or just VA guys who would know the state, have ties to the state, and generally want the kids in the state to succeed (Stiney, Cavanough, Newsome). That's one reason everybody got along, nobody left, and everybody wanted to stay working for Frank. Basically, there were no "outsiders" who would leave Frank after building their resume.
I think Frank decided with this last group that this was his last major change, and so what if these guys move on in a few years. He will be moving on too. He needed somebody to give him the best few years possible, and after that it wouldn't matter anymore.
Newsome was a VA coach with strong recruiting ties. I think he was a former 757 high school coach. It was thought he could pull in the 757 talent, and he's given credit for landing Tyrod. Not sure what else after that. That may be his only contribution to VT football.

agree. There is a lot more to everything that has happened to Tech fooball in Newsome's seven years at Tech. Prior to coming to Tech, Newsome coached 17 years at major programs in Richmond and the 757. In 1998 at Heritage High School, Newsome was APís Virginia Scholastic Coach of the Year. In 2004, he was the assistant head coach and OL coach on JMU's I-AA National Championship team. The man is a recognized high school and college football coach on winning football teams. It was just time for a change. No need to throw the guy under the bus.

Does Newsome owe you money? If he does, handle that situation someplace else. Keep it off TSL.

If you can remember, Newsome was Brought in because the OL sucked when Stinespring was coaching it. Unfortunately it never got better.
