(Smart-ass question: when did we ever have it? But I digress)
The VCU game this weekend is great opportunity for our team and program to make some progress towards their goals. We might not have guys at 100% and our depleted backcourt spells trouble against VCU's style, but this is a golden opportunity to generate some positive momentum for this program. UVA already lost at home to VCU; if we go to Richmond and win essentially a road game against them, that would make quite a statement.
One game in basketball doesn't make or break a program. If we lose it like people are expecting, we'll learn from it and get better. If we win though it'll start chipping away at peoples' perception of our program and our status relative to our neighbors. That maybe JJ is building something over there in the valley and it might be worth your attention.
We're all tired of watching schools pass us by in basketball (or just float further away). I'm glad we accepted this game. Let's decide right now to just take over the state, starting with this game Saturday. If you're a VT fan in the Richmond area, get your ass to the game. Worst case, you'll get to enjoy the VCU band. Best case, you might see the beginning of something special. Go Hokies!
