Doesn't look like there will be a breakaway.

Good SI article about meetings between conference chairmen trying to sort out how the Big 5 conferences can coesist with the rest of the NCAA.

BCS level college football is a resource war, not a morality play.

I never thought there would be a breakaway from the NCAA. I just see a new division containing the "Power 5" conferences. I also see athletic stipends increasing only at the Power 5 schools and any other school that's earning a certain dollar figure in profits over a given amount of years. I don't know what that dollar amount will ultimately be, but I see the NCAA forcing "wealthier" athletic conferences and athletic programs to increase stipends or provide more available scholarships for Olympic sports or Title 9. There may be a rule in football that Power 5 schools can no longer play current FCS (Div. 1-AA) schools (JMU, Liberty, VMI, ...) and only play teams from lower FBS conferences (MAC, Sun Belt, CUSA, AAC, MWC). I think all other sports will likely remain the same as they are.
