Teams will just give up the foul, send Joey to the line, and take their chances. JVZ needs to improve to the 60-65% range. IMO, that would seal the deal.
It would be nice to see his FT percentage improve, but it appears that a lot of PFs or Cs tend be poor FT shooters. Since practice time is limited, are you suggesting that Coach Johnson takes time away from when JVZ practices his low post drills to give him extra time to work on his FTs? I don't believe JVZ would be considered a "gym rat," which may be the only way it improves given he only has 2 1/2 years left with the team.
Hopefully he can develop his entire offensive game over the next couple years. If not, that's fine, we've had plenty of use around here for a defensive and rebounding specialist (see cheicke diakite). I think we've been missing that the past couple seasons! Now if we can find one lock down perimeter defender--which might have been rankin if he hadn't decided to pull a Tyrone Garland and bail when a freshman passes him in the rotation. The irony is that Garland bailed when RANKIN came along and took his minutes.
