Even a tournament with series of games does not fully eliminate the quirky match ups or having one side of a bracket with better/worse teams. This where the EPL gets it rights. Balanced schedule, total points result in best team being made champions.
I don't care that it never WILL happen... I'm saying how it SHOULD happen. No way does a runner up deserve a playoff spot before all the champions are seeded and I'll never be convinced otherwise. If you can't win your conference, you shouldn't have a shot at the national title. Period.
Any teams named national champs without winning their conference first will always have an asterisk in my book... and that most definitely includes the 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide. The title game that year should've been LSU and Oklahoma State. NO WAY should Bama have been allowed in that stadium without tickets.
