It is 2 ADs from 2 schools doing what they are hired to do. It is not part of anything bigger nor is it a conspiracy.

Sometimes things are what they are.
It would be easier to accept if the Big XII did not have the perception problem. Oklahoma's AD has already stated regrets of the Big XII's decision to not expand to add Cincinnati and/or Louisville. Also, it would appear that WVU or Luck may not be 100% happy with the school being on an island. While the Big XII is stable until the GOR expires, it does not necessarily mean the conference is stable enough to ensure that all 10 schools will quickly and eagerly renew it for another 12 years. When it comes time for WVU to renew the GOR, does WVU quickly sign or does it look around to see if there is a "better" home for the school? Until the Big XII gives WVU a "travel partner," then it will continue to have the perception that WVU may not be 100% committed to the conference.

I do believe that Luck is at least trying to lay the foundation to give WVU "options" when the GOR expires. It has been well established that fan behavior and academics are probably the 2 main reasons the ACC is not interested in WVU. Well if Luck is truly trying to change the culture of fan behavior at WVU, then at some point WVU will need to play ACC schools so ACC officials can see firsthand that the culture is changing there. By scheduling a series against a former rival, then WVU can show the ACC all the potentials it can bring to the conference or kill any shot if it is a complete disaster. I did not include TV market because WVU has the potential to give the ACC a stronger foothold in several markets (i.e. NOVA, DC, Maryland, SE Ohio, etc).
