Virginia Tech Football Reportedly Extends Several Assistants

Virginia Tech football locked in Justin Fuente for another two years back in April, and now the Hokies have done the same for Fuente’s assistant coaches.

Per Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times, Virginia Tech has extended the contracts of most of their assistant coaching staff, with the assistants being locked up until June 2019. Coordinators Brad Cornelsen and James Shibest are locked up through June 2020, while Bud Foster is signed to an official contract through the 2019 season.

The coordinators’ compensation and length of deal is as follows, per the Times:

Offensive Coordinator Brad Cornelsen: $450,000, signed through June 2020

Defensive Coordinator Bud Foster: $900,000, signed through 2019 season

Special Teams Coordinator James Shibest: $420,000, signed through June 2020

Safeties coach Galen Scott was originally signed through 2018, but was given a one-year extension. Scott is slated to make $308,000 for the duration of his deal.

Assistants Brian Mitchell, Vance Vice, Holmon Wiggins and Charley Wiles are signed through June 2019, and will make $260,000 in salary. Running Backs Coach Zohn Burden is also signed through June 2019, and will make $200,000.

    1. Agreed! What he does with that D line each and every year plus his recruiting of late. What about his loyalty to VT?

    2. I don’t think Wiles is doing it for the money. At least I hope so.

      Zohn needs to be paid!
