Michael Vick is finally a member of the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame.

Virginia Tech announced the official inductees into the Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday, including the induction of Hokies legend Michael Vick.

Vick threw for 1,840 yards and 12 touchdowns, while running for another 580 yards and eight touchdowns that year. Vick went on to the be the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Virginia Tech will induct four other members into the hall of fame in the Class of 2017.

Zabian Dowdell — Dowdell was a star for Virginia Tech men’s basketball in his four-year career, starting 118 career games. In his senior season, Dowdell averaged 17.4 points per game and was named to the First-Team All-ACC and the All-ACC Defensive team.

  1. And just like that Tech lost my Silver Hokie donation and football season tickets. I don’t care what he did on the field, or what he’s done since he got caught, anyone who attaches jumper cables to a dog’s ears and throws him in a pool to torture and electrocute him doesn’t belong in ANY school’s HOF. I won’t be re-upping my TSL subscription either so you can thank them for that too. I am so disgusted.

  2. Putting a convicted felon into our HOF says something to people outside of VT as to who we are. I know he did his time for his crime and is a better man now, but I think his actions preclude him from the HOF. I don’t hate the guy, I just think we need to take a higher moral ground as a university.

  3. Mike Vick is the greatest football player I have ever seen in more years than 50 years of watching Vt football. He made some bad mistakes but paid for his mistakes and I consider it an great honor he went to VT. It was a shame that we could not build on his attending like Clemsom built on their trip to national championship game but he did put us on the map and much of our success today can be traced back to him.THANK you Micheal Vick !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Some people still like to hate Michael Vick but to me he did the crime and then he did the time. To me that earns a restart and he seems to have made the best of it.

    1. I wonder what kind of reaction he will get when he steps onto the field to be honored. Looking at the comments for the article in the Roanoke Times, there’s a lot of festering hate.

      1. I don’t hate Michael Vick. I will always fondly remember his time here as a player. He did great things to put us in the national spotlight. But this University is bigger than football and he should not a face representing this University. Especially considering we have a renowned vet program – where this is nothing short of a slap in the face. He did his time, I wish him the best, but VT needs to choose morality above football.
