Virginia Tech generally beats Virginia in football every season but this year, they beat them in something else.

Virginia Tech’s track and field team won both the men’s and women’s ACC championships over the weekend, clinching the Commonwealth Clash for the Hokies for the first time in the three years of the Clash.

The Clash is a running tally that takes into account the results of each competition between Virginia and Virginia Tech. This year, the schools tied at 11 points apiece. But, since the Hokies won more ACC Championships in sports that both compete in (4-1), Virginia Tech won the tiebreaker.

Virginia was victorious in the Commonwealth Clash the previous two seasons, winning 15-7 in 2014-2015 and 14-7 in 2015-2016.

  1. Maybe I am uneducated, but isn’t this VICTORY actually a really big deal for the Hokies ?

    1. Yes, it is very BIG!! They like to say that VT is a “one trick pony” that may be better in football, but that the other sports demonstrate that the Hoos have a superior athletics program over-all. Tough for them to stake that claim now!!
