Virginia Tech football announced on Tuesday that safety Terrell Edmunds has undergone left shoulder surgery and will miss the rest of the 2017 season.

“Terrell has battled through this condition for much of the season without missing any playing time. After further evaluation, our medical staff, Terrell and his family all agreed that the most prudent course of action was to undergo surgery and begin the rehab process as soon as possible,” said head coach Justin Fuente in a statement. ” We look forward to Terrell making a complete recovery.”
Edmunds, a redshirt junior, has been a stalwart in the Hokies’ secondary since the 2015 season. Edmunds has made 31 career starts, playing cornerback, rover and free safety. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound defensive back has recorded 182 career tackles, six career interceptions and 14 pass breakups.
With Edmunds done for the season, Virginia Tech’s depth at safety is truly being tested. Sophomore Divine Deablo went down early in the season, as he was playing more of a role. Redshirt freshman Khalil Ladler is expected to fill in for Edmunds at free safety.
