Virginia Tech Football Confirms 2018 Season Opener at Florida State

Virginia Tech has confirmed that the 2018 season opener at Florida State will be played on Labor Day, Monday, September 3rd, and will be televised by ESPN in prime time.

This game will mark the third time the Hokies have started the season with an ACC game. In 2005, Tech traveled to NC State and won 20-16, and in 2012 the Hokies opened at home against Georgia Tech (also on Labor Day) and won 20-17 in overtime.

Florida State leads the series 23-12-1 and won 12 in a row from 1976-2005. Since then, the two teams have split the series 2-2, with Virginia Tech winning 40-21 in Blacksburg in 2007 and taking the 2010 ACC Championship Game 44-33 in Charlotte. Florida State won 30-20 in Tallahassee in 2008 and defeated the Hokies in Blacksburg 28-22 during the 2012 season, the last time the two teams met.
