Tre Turner’s Athleticism, Pure Talent and Work Ethic Bode Well For College Transition

Basketball has always been Tre Turner’s first love when it comes to sports. He’s played his whole life, and then some. It wasn’t until the eighth grade that Turner first started playing football, and he immediately caught the attention of coaches as he moved up to high school.

Jared Rofles, the new head coach at the time at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro, N.C., was trying to get a sense for who he had to work with. He attended a workout of football hopefuls. One of the kids in attendance? Turner.

“They had already scheduled a 7-on-7, so I was trying to decide who to take, because I didn’t know anybody,” Rofles said. “I was mainly doing it by watching them do agility drills, some the running and other things we were doing, and (Turner) stood out to me right away as an incoming freshman.”

Rofles immediately went to Turner and tried to get him to play. However, with basketball season on the horizon and nagging knee pain due to a growth spurt, Turner declined and sat out his freshman year.
