“[Roccaforte] has been here from the start of our tenure, and as our program has continued to mature and evolve, one of his biggest responsibilities within our organization has been to be a conduit to everyone on our staff,” said Virginia Tech men’s basketball Head Coach Buzz Williams said in a statement. “As time has transpired, along with many other roles, that role has become the most important and this is why this title change has become necessary.”

Roccaforte, who has been the lead assistant on staff since May 2016, has served an instrumental role on staff as a recruiter, evaluator and gameplanner.

“He is the best teammate I have ever been around, and as a former head coach, his willingness to share his wisdom with everyone in our program has been invaluable,” Williams said. “This is only the second time in my career I have had this position on my staff, and I anticipate it will have the same result as it did the first time, leading to a head coaching opportunity for him. His resume speaks for itself and if we can continue to progress, his time with us will be limited as he accepts his next head coaching opportunity.”
