Freshman wide receiver Kalil Pimpleton has left Virginia Tech football, and plans to transfer from the university following the fall semester, according to Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times.
Pimpleton, who enrolled early at Virginia Tech, has been used in a limited fashion this season despite the Hokies’ lack of depth at wide receiver. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound wide receiver played quarterback and running back in high school, and has worked on transitioning to the receiver position since enrolling. He’s played in four games this season, totaling just one rush for four yards. Last week, Pimpleton served as the scout team quarterback for the Hokies, mimicking Georgia Tech’s TaQuon Marshall.
Pimpleton is the first member of Virginia Tech’s Class of 2017 to leave the program. He was a 3-star recruit from Muskegon, Mich. His only other reported offer coming out of high school was Eastern Michigan.
Anybody 3 inches and 30 pounds smaller than me has no business being out there with those big boys.
He tore it up in high school running the option at a very respected program in Western Michigan (Muskegon HS). Unfortunately I think he is just too small for big time D1 football. However I am sure that there are some smaller programs in Michigan that would love to have his talents.
There is a logjam at that position and I anticipate we will likely have a few more players leave. He was basically a poor man’s version of Savoy and with CJ Carroll coming back next year, not sure he would have played much
Agreed. There are around 5/6 freshmen/rFr + Kumah WRs on the team now of which ones Savoy is really contributing at a high level. We probably see 2 more look to leave. I’m also guessing the other place we see attrition is at DL, and maybe RB.
Yeah-thanks Khalil- all the best.
Now an extra scholarship spot for this class.
my bet – he goes to play QB at a D2 school that runs the option. He played in the GT offense this week and decided it’s what he wants to do – not be a WR.
Didn’t give his “biggest” offer much time.
Maybe he thought he was better than who we have on the field and is upset? Hard to tell really.
Owell we got a couple great WRs coming in next season who have the opportunity to excel and play early. And Savoy/Kumah are only going to get better.
That and we should have Farley back to.
