Caleb Steward is the newest member of the Virginia Tech Class of 2018.

The fireworks began early for the Hokies on Independence Day, as running back Caleb Steward announced his commitment to Virginia Tech.

Steward is a 5-foot-10, 203-pound running back out of Jacksonville, Fla. The rising senior at Ed White High School is rated as a 2-star prospect by Rivals and a 3-star prospect by 247Sports. Steward only holds four other Power 5 offers and several other offers from Group of 5 programs.

Virginia Tech now holds commitments from 16 recruits in the Class of 2018. Steward is the first and likely only running back for this class, strictly due to numbers. Virginia Tech took two running backs in last year’s cycle, and currently have 6-7 scholarship running backs on the roster.

The Hokies could add another commitment for the 2018 class later on Tuesday. Offensive lineman Jordan McFadden is slated to announce his college decision as well, sometime around 7-8:00 p.m. Virginia Tech sits in his top-4 with Duke, Rutgers and Michigan State.

  1. Nice. Welcome to the Hokie Nation! How about “Touchdown Caleb” to start things off. Good name?
