With one commitment already in tow for Independence Day, the fireworks continued into the evening as Virginia Tech added a commitment from Jordan McFadden.

McFadden is a 6-foot-4, 280-pound offensive lineman from Dorman High School in Roebuck, S.C. He’s rated as a 3-star prospect by both Rivals and 247Sports, and holds offers from several Power 5 teams. Duke, Rutgers and Michigan State were the other teams in McFadden’s top group.

Virginia Tech now holds two commitments from offensive linemen, with McFadden joining John Harris. The Hokies will continue to pursue options along the offensive line, as they hope to fill openings. Tech signed two offensive linemen in the ’17 cycle — Aiden Brown and Christian Darrisaw — but Darrisaw is expected to prep for a semester. Along with Darrisaw, Harris and McFadden, Virginia Tech will likely try to take 1-2 more offensive linemen.

Caleb Steward was the first recruit to commit to the Hokies on Tuesday, and both Steward and McFadden have boosted Virginia Tech’s recruiting momentum into July. Since May 30, Virginia Tech has landed 11 commitments for the Class of 2018. Tech will do their best to parlay those commitments into a few more at the annual summer BBQ, scheduled for late-July.

  1. Looking back I can remember quite a few four start busts at OL, its tricky. The walk on we had from Centreville high Will Montgomery was better than the four star guy we recruited. Then there was Trip Carroll, and the kid we got from Ohio. OL is one position where stars don’t seem to mean as much.

  2. 6’4″ by your listing. 6’5″ on another site’s listing.. seems like every site has some measurement/weight conflicts. See this a lot and wonder Why. Should be a standard used … Thanks

  3. In the last years of the Beamer era people complained that VT mainly could only get three star recruits. What has changed?

    1. Maybe there’s a bit more confidence in the evaluations? That’s a good question. One thing I have noticed is that the current staff is mainly going after 3-stars with impressive offer lists. There are a few exceptions, but just about every 3-star recruit that Virginia Tech is recruiting has several Power 5 offers.

      1. I agree with that. Though I don’t want to act like beamer recruiting totally stunk, lefty helped out in some ways, but this seems to be more hand selected. Like we got a 3 star out of Jacksonville, he wasn’t in our back yard and we said “eh good enough”, they found a kid that they like.

        1. WIthout Lefty’s recruiting when he arrived, things would have been worse with current talent level.

I think CC has shown that the offer sheet is as important (or maybe more) than the star rating.

    2. In the past two years, regarding Offensive Line recruits, we have signed four, three star recruits and three, two star recruits. That is one reason we get excited about three star recruits on the Offensive Line.
