The Virginia Tech recruiting staff and coaches have been very busy in recent weeks, as coaches from all programs spend their spring evaluation period visiting recruits and searching for talent. The Hokies have issued a ton of offers in recent weeks. To recap, let’s take a look at all of the recruits Virginia Tech offered last week.

Class of 2018: athlete Kendrick Torain, defensive tackles Dennis Briggs and Mayan Ahanotu and running backs Andrew Cunningham and Master Teague

Class of 2019: tight ends Cormontae Hamilton and Larry Hodges, safety Joseph Charleston, running back Joachim Bangda and wide receiver Trey Knox

Class of 2020: linebackers Bryson Eason and Coziah Izzard

Kendrick Torain is a 3-star athlete from Tampa, FL with offers from North Carolina, NC State, Maryland, Georgia and Auburn, among many others. Torain is listed at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds and would play either wide receiver or defensive back for Virginia Tech.

Virginia Tech has a commitment from Joe Kane, but is still looking to haul in one or two more defensive tackles in the Class of 2018. Dennis Briggs is a 3-star lineman from Kissimmee, FL. He’s listed at 6-foot-4, 255-pounds and would likely move inside to play defensive tackle for Virginia Tech. Briggs is currently high on Miami, Vanderbilt and Florida State, but also holds offers from North Carolina, Oregon, Florida, Tennessee and others. Mayan Ahanotu is another undersized (6-foot-4, 250-pounds) lineman from Tampa, FL who currently favors Minnesota, Cal and Oklahoma.

The Hokies will also likely take two running backs in the Class of 2018. Several backs have been targeted, and Tech added two more to the list with Andrew Cunningham and Master Teague. Cunningham is a 3-star recruit, but has 49 reported scholarship offers, many of which are from Power 5 schools. Teague is another 3-star recruit with plenty of scholarship offers from schools like Auburn, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia and Ole Miss.

Teague is teammates with Trey Knox, a 4-star at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, TN. Knox has garnered heavy interest from several Power 5 schools and currently favors Florida, Ohio State, Louisville, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Cormontae Hamilton is listed as a tight end, but is 6-foot-2 and 245-pounds with two years of high school left. However, Hamilton also plays defensive end and could be a fit there as well. To this point, Virginia Tech is his only offer.

Larry Hodges is the other tight end to be offered. Hodges is listed at 6-foot-2 and 205-pounds and holds offers from Miami, South Florida and Indiana. Virginia Tech could use Hodges in a similar role to current tight end Chris Cunningham, or they could use him on the perimeter as a taller receiver. Hodges is also teammates with Torain at Jesuit High School in Tampa.

Joseph Charleston is listed at 6-foot-2 and 190-pounds, and is a safety/linebacker hyrbid. He’s a 4-star recruit according to Rivals and holds offers from West Virginia, Georgia, Vanderbilt and Alabama. Running back Joachim Bangda plays for St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. He holds offers from Michigan State, Maryland and Alabama.

  1. I obviously don’t understand how the star ratings work. Cunningham has 49 reported offers (granted, not all power 5) and he’s a 3-star?

    1. It has been explained somewhat like this…Three stars – Good college player, Four stars – really good college player and Five stars – Leaves college early for the NFL.

  2. Master Teague make um say uhhhh!

    Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.
