On Tuesday, we profiled defensive end Andrew Leota, one of Virginia Tech’s top targets on the defensive line. Today, we’ll take a look at defensive tackle Cam Goode.

Goode is listed by Rivals at 6-feet and 315-pounds. He’s rated as a 3-star recruit and has 14 reported scholarship offers, including schools like Boston College, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and Syracuse. Goode plays for St. John’s College in Washington D.C., which is the same high school that Kofi Wardlow played for. Wardlow was a Virginia Tech target in the Class of 2017.

The first thing you notice about Goode is his size. At 6-feet and 310-plus pounds, Goode has more concentrated mass than maybe any other player already on Virginia Tech’s roster, besides Tim Settle and maybe Parker Osterloh. He’ll likely need to cut that down slightly when he gets to college, but one thing is clear when you watch his film — Goode can move.

He can chase down screens on the short side of the field, can get to the sideline on stretch runs and disengages from blocks well. He’s agile enough to keep himself in the play, even when teams run away from him. He’s just a massive behemoth that, with the proper coaching, could really be a disruptor on the defensive line. He even has experience on the offensive line, though I see him more as a defensive tackle at the next level.

Goode is drawing plenty of interest. He visited Penn State in late February and also plans to visit West Virginia for their upcoming Junior Day in March. Goode is also expected to visit Virginia Tech this spring. It’s too early to say who has the edge in Goode’s recruitment, although Rutgers was considered the leader in mid-February.

Virginia Tech took two defensive tackles in the Class of 2017 — JBril Glaze and Robert Porcher IV. Still, there is little defensive tackle depth moving forward for the Hokies, meaning Tech could take two more interior linemen in this class. Alim McNeill is likely near the top of the board for Virginia Tech, though his recruitment will be no easy task. The Hokies are also high on Jalen Alexander, as well as Tahj Rice and Rick Sandidge. Both are highly sought after prospects, but Tech is in good shape with both.

  1. Low interest in every single school? Does he want to play college football? ha.

    1. Just too early in the process for anyone to have a big edge. Often the case with kids early in the recruiting process.
