Virginia Tech continues to expand their recruiting search for the Class of 2018, as the Hokies issue new offers just about every day. We’ll continue to profile some of their top targets, as we have since Signing Day. On Tuesday, we profiled top-50 player Teradja Mitchell. Today, we look at wide receiver Daniel George.

George is a 4-star recruit out of Oxon Hill, MD. He’s listed at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds and according to the 247Sports Composite, ranks just outside the top 150 players in the country. He’s the 26th-best receiver in the nation and the fifth-best player in Maryland. George currently has 14 scholarship offers, mainly from programs up and down the East Coast. Of his 14 offers, 12 of them are from Power 5 programs.

As you will see in his Hudl highlight video, George put up pretty gaudy stats in his junior season. He had 45 receptions for 873 yards and finished with 1,242 all-purpose yards and 20 total touchdowns.

Virginia Tech is looking for bigger receivers in the Class of 2018, and George fits that mold. He has a big frame and takes advantage of his size. George high-points the ball well, catches with his hands, and though he isn’t the fastest recruit, he has enough athleticism to be a problem in the open field. He won’t be known as a speedster, but he’s got great ball skills and is already an experienced route runner, which means gaining separation shouldn’t be an issue.

George reminds me a lot of Isaiah Ford. Ford was never going to burn guys down the field with his speed, but he had great hands and ran great routes. He was always a reliable third down target and gave opposing teams nightmares in the redzone. George can be that kind of player.

Fortunately for Virginia Tech, George’s recruitment hasn’t blown up yet. Penn State and Maryland figure to be the Hokies’ top competition for George’s services. Of course, if George pulls in bigger offers over the summer, all bets are off. The Hokies will certainly try to get George on campus at least once this offseason.

As I said, Virginia Tech is in the market for bigger, taller wideouts in the 2018 cycle. After hauling in three slot receivers in last year’s class, the Hokies are looking for guys who can fill roles on the outside, rather than in the slot. George, Matthew Hill, Dillon Spalding, Warren Thompson, Darryle Simmons, Corey Gammage, Edward Hendrix and Darryl Jones are all Virginia Tech targets at wide receiver who are 6-foot-2 or taller. It would surprise no one to see the Hokies take two or three tall receivers in the Class of 2018.
