Willis will enroll at Virginia Tech for this spring semester, but will not be on scholarship. Instead, he will walk-on.
Willis, who finished his sophomore season in 2016, has thrown for 2,530 yards in 432 pass attempts, totaling 12 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Willis played for most of his freshman season at Kansas, but was benched halfway through this season after struggling in consecutive games vs. TCU and Baylor.
Virginia Tech’s quarterback room will be quite full this spring. With the additions of Willis and AJ Bush, the Hokies will now have several quarterbacks on the roster. Redshirt-freshman Josh Jackson and true-freshman Hendon Hooker will join Willis and Bush, as will walk-ons Jack Click and Chase Mummau.
