Virginia Tech Cracks Top-25 in AP Poll, Game Time Set for North Carolina

Virginia Tech didn’t play this weekend, but thanks to several losses by top-25 teams, voters tabbed the HokiesĀ at No. 25 in the AP Poll after Week 5.

It’s the first time the Hokies are ranked since 2014, after Tech knocked off Ohio State.

Virginia Tech will play North Carolina next weekend on the road. After the Tar Heels’ win over Florida State, North Carolina moved into the 17th position after being unranked last week. The ACC announced on Saturday that the Hokies’ game vs. North Carolina will be at 3:30 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN 2.

While the Hokies are ranked in the AP Poll, Tech is still unranked in the Coaches’ Poll.

  1. So far it’s looking like we’ll be getting a lot of rain from Matthews so I don’t expect a huge offensive output. This should be to our benefit since our defense is superior.

  2. I would have preferred that we beat UNC and than we are added to the top 25. My rational is the players need to be fully focused on this week’s game. We deserve the rating but I hope it is not a distraction for the younger players. I believe Coach Fu will have this under control but it is just one more thing to be concerned about before we play a team that has a very good offense that Bud will have his hands full to hold in check.

  3. so unc beats Illinois, JMU and barely beats Pitt…squeaks by FSU at the end and they jump from unranked to 17th in one shot? Great opportunity coming here for VT. If the polls are really this hollow, a win saturday should launch us to the Top 5 šŸ˜‰ . I do love coming in under the radar though..

    1. In the coaches poll they were 23rd last week. Beating FSU still has a lot of pull, even if they aren’t that good this year.

  4. Earlier than expected, but expected none the less. Big game against UNC. Need to play some defense against those boys, but they will give up a lot. ACC is legit this year – we need to ride the wave.

  5. That gives the ACC five teams in the top 25? Six if you include Florida State which doesn’t deserve to be in there. When is the last time that ever happened? Or better yet has it ever happened?

      1. I thought they were supposed to be a world beater this season as well. Just looking at their scores their defense must not be like last years. Giving up 30 pts a game.
