Strategy Session 2016: Offense

National Signing Day for the class of 2016 is February 3, so obviously there is not much time left to pursue high school senior prospects. In this “Strategy Session: Offense” report I’ll break down what offensive positions I expect new head coach Justin Fuente and company to focus on with the Virginia Tech’s remaining class of 2016 scholarships. First, however, lets take a look back at how Fuente recruited the offense in his time at Memphis.

Per Rivals, Memphis had only four commitments in the class of 2012 when Justin Fuente took over in December of 2011. The Tigers would enroll 25 prospects in total (mid-year plus summer enrollment) in the class, which included nine junior college prospects. Position-wise, the breakdown of that class was as follows:

– Two QBs (1 junior college prospect)
– Two RBs (1 junior college prospect)
– One WR
– Three TEs (1 junior college prospect)
– Five OL (1 junior college prospect)

– Two DEs
– Four LBs (2 junior college prospects)
– Six DBs (3 junior college prospects)

The Tigers had 29 recruits in the following class, including six junior college prospects. The position breakdown for that class was as follows:
