DE Jimmie Taylor IV Excited To Start Virginia Tech Career

Southwest Onslow (Jacksonville, N.C.) star Jimmie Taylor IV spurned scholarship offers from Duke, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina and NC State, among others, in favor of Virginia Tech. The 6’4”, 225-pound senior defensive end, who stayed a solid commit the midst of a changing of the guard in Tech’s football program, spent this past weekend at his future school on an official visit.

“The weekend was great,” said Taylor. “I had the chance to talk to Coach Wiles. I also talked to coach Bud Foster. I also talked to Coach Fuente. We talked a lot one-on-one. I loved it down there. I had a great time. I hung out with Tim Settle and Trevon Hill. Both play on the DL. We all had a great time together. I even spent time with Brenden Motley a little bit.”

The decisions of Bud Foster and Charley Wiles to stay and work under new head coach Justin Fuente were important to Taylor, although it appears he likely would have stayed with his original decision regardless.

“When the coaching situation happened, as far as that goes I really just wanted to know whether Coach Wiles was going to be there and if Coach Foster was going to be there. There are lots of reasons why I chose Virginia Tech, but having them there is like icing on the cake,” Taylor said.
