Catching Up With VT’s New WR Recruit, Divine Deablo

Mount Tabor (Winston-Salem, N.C.) standout Divine Deablo received his first major Division 1 scholarship offer in the fall of 2013, during his sophomore season. Clemson was the first to offer the talented wide receiver, who learned of the news the day the Tigers were hosting the Florida State Seminoles.

Deablo went on to receive numerous scholarship offers, easily surpassing the double-digit mark. Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, NC State, Ohio State, Penn State, South Carolina, Tennessee, and of course Virginia Tech pursued him. In the end, it was Virginia Tech that stood out most to the 6’3”, 205-pound prospect.

“They had a plan for me,” Deablo answered when asked what gave Tech the edge over those other college programs. “They knew where they wanted me to play and where I can contribute. They said the X position, so towards the left. Every time I went there I would talk to players, coaches, everybody. I know they have great fan support. I’ve been to three games there, so I know that.”

Deablo committed just a few days after attending “Beamer’s Barbecue” last Saturday. Heading into the trip, the plan was to take official visits this fall to Georgia, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia Tech. Last Saturday’s experience, though, sparked an earlier decision. Deablo now says the only official he will make this fall is to Virginia Tech.
