All four starting defensive linemen for Virginia Tech are on the watch list for the Nagurski Award, which is given annually to college football’s top defensive player. That’s pretty impressive. I thought today would be a good day to figure out Tech’s most productive defensive lineman when you factor in number of snaps. Today I’ll look at Tech’s current players, and tomorrow we’ll compare them to some past Tech greats.
It’s quite simple. We’re going to take VT’s starting defensive linemen and use their number of career snaps, number of career tackles for loss and number of career sacks to figure out which are the best playmakers. At defensive tackle, the end result will probably surprise you.
Nicolas gets the most fanfare of any Virginia Tech defensive lineman, and rightfully so. He’s the real deal. But is he Virginia Tech’s most productive defensive lineman, according to the numbers?
