5-star defensive end Jalen Dalton, 4-star linebacker/defensive end Ricky DeBerry Jr., 4-star defensive tackle Tim Settle and 4-star cornerback Garrett Taylor are among the recruits expected in attendance for Virginia Tech’s home contest against the Miami Hurricanes this evening.
Dalton, who is scheduled to take an official visit to Virginia Tech next weekend, indicated via Twitter that he would be at Tech tonight as well. This is good news for the Hokies, who are going head-to-head with the Tar Heels of UNC for the 6’6″, 240-pound senior. Right now, we are hearing Virginia Tech is in great shape. The fact that Dalton is visiting twice in two weeks certainly backs up that info.
DeBerry, a 6’3″, 245-pound senior out of Atlee (Mechanicsville, VA), is down to Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia and Virginia Tech. He has taken official visits to Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas A&M, so he has two official visit spots remaining. This race could well come down to the in-state schools, but at this point a decision isn’t expected until a little before Christmas.
Tim Settle, a top defensive tackle prospect out of Stonewall Jackson (Manassas, VA), is a player Virginia Tech appears to be in good position with at the moment. Clemson, Oklahoma State, Penn State, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia are among the other schools he is considering. As of this writing, Settle, who has taken official visits to VT and Oklahoma State, plans to make his college choice on December 20.
Garrett Taylor, who was a teammate of DeBerry’s before DeBerry transferred from St. Christopher’s (Richmond, VA) to Atlee before this year, is one of the top cornerbacks in the nation in the class of 2015. A torn ACL and subsequent surgery have sidelined the talented senior this season, but he is still considered a top recruit.
Taylor committed to Michigan before the start of his senior year; however, as a result of Brady Hoke’s shaky job status, he is keeping his options open. Virginia Tech, Ohio State and Penn State are three schools he is giving a closer look as he watches to see how Michigan finishes up the 2014 season.
Other notables expected to be in attendance tonight include…
– William Fleming (Roanoke, VA) senior wide receiver Warren Craft. Craft committed to Virginia Tech men’s basketball after his freshman year, but he and Buzz Williams and company went their separate ways once Williams took over this past spring. Craft says he is not interested in Tech basketball but is interested in Tech football, which is giving him a look. UVa offered a football scholarship last week.
Fleming head coach Bobby Martin believes Craft has the potential to play on Sundays. It’ll be interesting to see what Tech football does in terms of a possible offer.
– Tremaine Edmunds, Coleman Fox, Trevon Hill, DuWayne Johnson, Deshawn McClease and Mook Reynolds are the committed prospects expected to be in Lane tonight.
– Class of 2016 standouts including Reggie Floyd (RB/S, Stonewall Jackson HS in Manassas, VA), CJ Freeman (RB, Northern Guilford HS in Greensboro, N.C.), and JJ Givens (DB, Atlee HS in Mechanicsville, VA) plan to be at tonight’s game. All three have been offered by the Hokies.

Why does Burrell keep showing up yet has crossed VT off his list? I think he could have a negative impact and could be trying to recruit others away from VT.
I think its more about hanging out with friends like settle. Also, there’s a lot of talent in Hylton, so cant be burning any bridge
As usual, UNC will skate with a minor slap on the wrist. Even my two friends who are UNC “friends of the program” refuse to donate, attend games … basically, they are disgusted and embarrassed.
There was a day the NCAA was a fairly honorable organization, imo. The last 10-15 years (especially recent 5) have destroyed any credibility it once had for most followers of collegiate athletics.
