During afternoon drills at the Virginia Tech’s July 14 one-day camp, defensive backs coach Torrian Gray joked with prospect JJ Givens.

“He finally caught one,” Gray shouted with a smile.

With a laugh, Givens retreated to the back of the line to await his next drill. The Atlee (Mechanicsville, VA) rising junior defensive back had more reason to smile after the camp, when he received a scholarship offer from head coach Frank Beamer.

“It’s just a blessing. I love it,” Givens said of the Tech offer.
