Billy Ray Mitchell

Height: 6-4
Weight: 280
3-star recruit by 247Sports, #35 OG nationally, #17 overall prospect in New Jersey

Billy Ray Mitchell chose Virginia Tech over offers from Wisconsin, Syracuse, NC State, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati and several others.  He lined up at center, guard or tackle as a senior at Paramus High School in New Jersey.  He projects to the guard position at Virginia Tech, but he could potentially play offensive tackle as well.

Like Tyrell Smith, Mitchell faced a very high level of competition in New Jersey.  Take a look at the number of college prospects that played for Paramus this past season.  Mitchell faced good players every day in practice, including a defensive end who is going to Iowa.  He also faced tough competition each and every Friday night in high school.  Playing for schools like Paramus and Don Bosco isn’t like playing for a regular high school.  It’s more like playing for a small college.  Because of that experience, I feel like Mitchell (and Smith) will be able to make the mental adjustment to college football more easily than most recruits.
