Babcock and Twitter

Sometimes it takes a while before a new athletic director can make his mark.  Or, perhaps a better way to put that is sometimes it takes a while before a new athletic director’s mark is noticed by the general public.

Despite the “Tech” in its name, Virginia Tech hasn’t exactly been a tech-savvy athletic department in many ways.  Frank Beamer likes to joke that he can’t even turn on a computer, and he’s probably being serious.  That was a cute joke 10 years ago, but it’s not-so-cute anymore in these days when Nick Saban is Facetiming Da’Shawn Hand.  I know some of you get mad when I say that Frank holds us back a little in recruiting, but that Nick Saban/Facetime story is something I heard from a very good source.  From that standpoint, Frank Beamer does hold us back in recruiting because – as he’s joked – he can’t even turn on a computer.  Nick Saban apparently can.  Da’Shawn Hand went to Alabama, and not Virginia Tech.
