Checking In At FUMA

As expected, Virginia Tech class of 2013 recruits Holland Fisher and DJ Reid enrolled at Fork Union Military Academy in August. There was some doubt about whether or not Cequan Jefferson , another Hokies 2013 signee, would be able to do the same, but eventually he landed at the Virginia prep school as well. All three have their sights set on enrolling at Virginia Tech in January of 2014.

In a preseason interview with TechSideline.com, FUMA postgraduate head coach John Shuman expressed confidence in Fisher’s chances of making it to Blacksburg in January. Reid, a product of Thomas Dale (Chester, VA), is in okay shape grade-wise but needs improvement on either the SAT or ACT. At the time, Shuman was not sure Jefferson would even make it to FUMA, let alone Tech.

This week was a big one for the talented trio, as Term 1 final exams took place. The final Term 1 grades are not yet in, but Shuman acknowledged that Jefferson is under pressure to score high marks from the start.

“We’re waiting for the academic results. How high he can go early on will determine if Tech stays with him,” Shuman said of Jefferson, a standout cornerback recruit out of Henrico High School (VA).
