Updating Cequan Jefferson’s Status With VT

Cequan Jefferson is a talented athlete with the physical potential to play very early on in his Virginia Tech career.  As his Henrico High School (VA) career winds down, though, the main focus is not preparing himself physically for his freshman year in Blacksburg.  Instead, the focus is on classroom work and trying to gain admission to the school he signed a letter of intent with in February of 2013.

“He’s still working on it,” former Henrico head coach Roger Brookes said when asked if Jefferson had gained admission to Tech.  “He’s doing a lot of stuff.  He’s taking an extra class.  He’s in there trying, so basically it will come down to how he finishes up in the end and if the SAT matches up with the GPA.  I think he’ll have the GPA, but I’m not sure about the SAT and if it will match.”

Should he fall short of his goal of enrolling this summer, the likely scenario for Jefferson would be attending prep school with an eye toward enrolling in January of 2014.  Coach Brookes believes Fork Union would be the likely destination in that scenario, but right now Plan B is not being discussed.

“They are still trying to get him in this summer,” Brookes said.  “Shane Beamer came by here last Friday and he still thinks Cequan can make it.  We’re hoping that’s the case.  We’re not giving in to the secondary choice just yet.”
