Two Hokies selected in the 2013 NFL Draft

Corey Fuller and Vinston Painter were Virginia Tech’s two NFL Draft selections in 2013.  Five other Hokies have already signed free agent contracts as well.

Corey Fuller

Fuller, a wide receiver who came out of nowhere to catch 43 passes for 814 yards and six touchdowns in 2012, was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round with the #171 overall pick.  He started eight games for Tech this past season, and played in all 13.

Painter, an offensive tackle who also did not breaking into the starting lineup until his senior season, went in the sixth round with the #173 overall selection.  He’ll be heading to the Denver Broncos.

Five other Tech players signed rookie free agent contracts.

Marcus Davis : New York Giants
Alonzo Tweedy : New York Giants
Bruce Taylor : Cincinnati Bengals
Antoine Hopkins : Pittsburgh Steelers
Nick Becton : San Diego Chargers

Jarrett Boykin made the active roster of the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent this past season.

  1. M Davis is fortunate to get a look from any team based on his propensity to take plays off and unwillingness to block, IMHO. The work ethic thing is a huge factor in the NFL.

    1. well they aren’t paying people to be lazy. If you’re making the kind of money those guys make then you better produce.

  2. A player on offense who doesn’t block is like a defender who doesn’t tackle – neither deserves to be on the field. This is an unbelievable opportunity for MD7. The football gods are smiling on him right now. Hope he makes the best of it.

    1. Have pity on CC … a friend of his got married this weekend, so I assume that involved lots of … having fun.

      Mistake has been fixed.

    2. He won’t be the fastest WR on the field, but no DB is gonna bring him down… 😉

  3. CC –

My final parting shot to all the cool-aid kids in Hokie Nation who thought Marcus Davis would be drafted.

STEP AWAY FROM THE COOL-AID HOKIE NATION!

      1. YEP!

Lots of Hokie Nation has stepped-back from the cool-aid, now only 25% of the TSL Poll on who will succeed in the NFL have confidence in Marcus Davis.

So, Mr. Genes, are you part of the 25%, or the 75%?

        Good luck with that.
