There wasn’t much to like about Virginia Tech’s 35-17 loss to Pittsburgh, and the stats were gruesome, in favor of the Panthers. Nonetheless, here’s our “stat pack” for this game:

Pittsburgh owns a four-game winning streak over the Hokies, the longest winning streak over a Frank Beamer-coached Virginia Tech team. South Carolina has a 4-0-1 record against VT under Frank Beamer, but that sequence is W-W-T-W-W.

The Hokies failed to register a 100-yard rushing game from a tailback for the fifth game in a row. That’s the longest streak since VT started the 2008 season with eight straight games in which a tailback didn’t rush for 100 yards. Darren Evans gained a Tech-record 243 yards in game nine of 2008 against Maryland.

The 537 yards given up by the Hokie defense is the most they’ve surrendered since LSU had 598 yards in the second game of the 2007 season. That’s a span of 70 games. (If you’re wondering, Stanford had 534 yards in the 2010 Orange Bowl.)
