Thompson Finds Right Fit In Virginia Tech

Prior to making an official visit to Virginia Tech this past Sunday through Tuesday, Trevor Thompson received one piece of advice from St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy (Delafield, WI) postgraduate head coach Brian Richert.  The advice was to “always follow your gut,” Richert recalled.

The 6’11” center did just that, and before he left Blacksburg he had verbally committed to Hokies head coach James Johnson.

“I thought I would take the visit, and then I would make the rest of my official visits.  I thought I would take all five official visits,” said Thompson, Tech’s first commitment in the class of 2013.  “Once I stepped on campus, it was over.”

A 2012 graduate of Ben Davis High School (Indianapolis, IN), Thompson is now enrolled at SJNMA for a postgraduate year.  He chose the Hokies over offers from Arizona State and Auburn, as well as interest from a host of others.  Coach Richert believes more schools would have offered had Thompson waited, but the standout prospect just felt right about Virginia Tech.  His parents did as well.
