Virginia Tech picked up a big commitment from 5-star cornerback Kendall Fuller on Sunday afternoon.  As you well know, it’s not every day that the Hokies are able to gain a verbal from a 5-star type of player.

Fuller is the fifth 5-star recruit in Virginia Tech history.  Well, at least as long as they’ve been doing star rankings.  I can’t tell you anything about recruiting in the 70’s and 80’s, but I think it’s probably safe to say that 5-star recruits weren’t exactly beating down Tech’s door back then.

5-star recruits don’t always work out.  All of Tech’s 5-star recruits have been major contributors to the program, though with a couple of them it’s really hard to understand how they were 5-star recruits, with the benefit of hindsight.

Kevin Jones: As the #1 recruit in America coming out of high school, Jones was the highest-rated recruit in Virginia Tech history.  He made a lot of big plays for the Hokies, and he went on to become a first round draft pick in the NFL. Jones is still the #2 rusher in Virginia Tech history, despite playing just three years.
