6’2″, 305-pound Derrick Nnadi was in Blacksburg on July 14 for Virginia Tech’s one-day camp. There, the Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) rising junior defensive tackle showed why he has received scholarship offers from Illinois, N.C. State, Old Dominion, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
“I thought my performance in the one-on-one competition (at Virginia Tech’s camp) was pretty great,” Nnadi said. “In the last one, my hand movement, if I would have used more hand movement, I would have done better. Other than that, I thought I played great.”
Nnadi looked every bit of 6’2″, 305 pounds, and he moved well. More than anything, though, his strength really proved to be a challenge for opposing offensive linemen in the one-on-one competition. Nnadi was happy with his strength, and he feels his speed off the ball is coming along as well.
“Other than my strength, I’m glad about my speed,” Nnadi said. “I’m gradually increasing it, going from being just a big building to being a train.”
