Despite a slow start, Virginia Tech whipped Boston College 30-14 in Lane Stadium on Saturday. The offense put up big yardage numbers, which is starting to become a trend. Defensively, Tech played well, but as a result of more injuries there are serious concerns.

The Offense Keeps on Rolling

The Hokies only had six points at halftime, and there wasn’t a lot to be happy about. The one good thing in the fist half was the fact that the Tech offense succeeded in the two minute offense yet again, with Logan Thomas driving the Hokies down the field for a field goal on the final play of the half.

At halftime, I thought the coaching staff made a couple of key adjustments that led to more success on the ground. First, I thought they ran David Wilson out of more power formations. Second, and perhaps most important, they stopped trying to drive block Boston College. The Eagles have a big, strong defense, and Tech focused on cut blocking on the edge in the second half and they succeeded in getting the outside linebackers and safeties off their feet. That sprung David Wilson for several big gains on the ground.
