Diary: Baron, Eagles Looking To Clinch Division

Since dropping its season opener, Brentwood Academy (Nashville, TN) has won seven straight games and is now in position to secure a division title with a win this week. It won’t be easy. The Eagles take on a 7-1 Ensworth squad that has won its last three games by an average of 34 points.

Virginia Tech-bound defensive end/offensive guard Woody Baron is not a big believer in home-field advantage when it comes to football, but his team will get to host Ensworth on Friday night.

“They are the defending state champions,” Baron said of Ensworth, which has a 4-1 record in Division II, Class AA. Brentwood is undefeated at 5-0. “It’ll be a great atmosphere, a great game. It’ll be a challenge. They always produce good teams. They did graduate some seniors at key positions last year, but they are good.”

Except for a 3-point win over then unbeaten Baylor on September 30, Brentwood Academy has been winning convincingly as well. The Eagles have won by an average of 27 points per game outside of the 10-7 decision against division rival Baylor, which was the biggest win of the season up to this point.
