NC RB Chris Mangus Narrows List

Broughton High School (Raleigh, N.C.) began preseason practice recently, and rising senior running back Chris Mangus is anxious to build off of last season’s successes. The 5’11”, 175-pound prospect totaled approximately 1,600 yards of offense, including over 1,300 yards rushing, in head coach Chris Martin’s spread offense. Combining a good work ethic with speed and quickness, Mangus continues to progress on the high school level.

Coach Martin first took notice of Mangus in 2008, when the skilled back performed well on the freshman team. Most Broughton sophomores play on the junior varsity squad, but Mangus was too talented to keep off the varsity squad in 2009.

“We moved him up to the varsity level because we could tell he had that speed and ability to be a good one,” Martin said. “The last four games that year, we went to the I-formation and he had a few 200-plus games. Last year as a junior, we went back to the spread and he had a great year.”

Broughton’s no. 26 sparked interest and ultimately scholarship offers from major FBS coaches. He was recently able to narrow the field, and barring a change it looks like he’ll play college football and attend school in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
