Quick Take with Nigel Williams

The main purpose of Nigel Williams ‘ July 9 visit to Blacksburg was to spend some time with Virginia Tech’s players. As it turns out, that day was just what the 6’3″, 260-pound Benedictine (Richmond, VA) rising senior needed to know that Virginia Tech was the school he wanted to attend.

Williams, who made the July 9 trek along with his mother, father, and two younger brothers, left Blacksburg without committing. He returned home, spoke with his parents, and called the coaches the next day. The talented defensive line prospect boasted double-digit FBS offers before going with the Hokies.

Entering his fourth season as a starter on the varsity level, Williams started at tight end and on the defensive line last season as a junior. He racked up 42 tackles (28 solo) with 17.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks in 2010, seeing action at defensive end and defensive tackle. On offense, Williams had 15 catches for 236 yards and four scores last season.

“From a defensive standpoint, you almost can’t take your eyes off him. He is relentless. He runs to the football every play,” Cadets head coach Greg Lilly said.
