The 1995 Tech-UVA game has gone down as one of the greatest endings in
Virginia Tech football history. The Hokies trailed by as many as 15 points,
didn’t score at all in the second and third quarters, but managed to pull off a
dramatic fourth quarter comeback for a 36-29 win.

In case you forgot, that UVA team was really good. They were ranked #13
heading into the matchup with the Hokies, and they had already clinched a tie at
the top of the ACC standings by knocking off #1 Florida State. Two of their
losses came to Texas and Michigan in the final minute of the game.

If you go through UVA’s 1995 roster, it was littered with future NFL starters
such as the Barber twins, Percy Ellsworth, Germaine Crowell, Jamie Sharper and
James Farrior. There’s a reason the Hoos were good back then; they had some
really good players. You would also recognize some of the other names on their
roster: quarterback Mike Groh and free safety Paul London, the son and brother of UVA’s two
most recent head coaches.

This was also a matchup of two championship teams. UVA was the co-champs of
the ACC, while Tech’s victory over Temple in the previous week gave the Hokies a
share of the Big East Championship.
