Conte Picks Virginia Tech

Blessed Sacrament Huguenot (Powhatan, VA) offensive tackle Augie Conte has made his choice. After making visits to finalists UVa and Virginia Tech this week, the 6’6″, 270-pound rising senior has decided to don the maroon and orange of Virginia Tech.

“I’m going to Virginia Tech,” Conte said early this afternoon.

Conte’s commitment is a big one for the Hokies on several fronts. First and foremost, the offensive line is perhaps the top remaining need for Tech in this 2012 class. Conte gives Tech two O-line commits with Pennsylvania offensive guard/center Jack Willenbrock being the other. And secondly, Conte chose Tech over UVa, the school he grew up following.

“I really liked the way I was treated at Virginia Tech,” Conte said, discussing why he chose the Hokies. “I loved the campus. I really liked Coach Frank Beamer. I liked all the coaches. I liked the football program. I just felt at home there. I really liked it.”
