Thomas Smith Commits To Virginia Tech

Lafayette (Williamsburg, VA) rising senior Thomas Smith verbally committed to Virginia Tech yesterday, accepting the scholarship offer he received just days ago. The 6’3″, 200-pound wide receiver had been leaning towards the Hokies since getting the good news from primary recruiter Curt Newsome.

“I talked to my dad and told him I was ready to commit,” said Smith, whose father, a member of the United States military, is currently serving in Afghanistan. “The Fork Union thing was already in my plans. My dad just wanted to make sure I asked about how everything was set up at Virginia Tech. It fit all our criteria.”

Smith will sign a letter of intent with Virginia Tech this coming February, but he will not enroll until January of 2013 (and could be counted towards Tech’s 2012 class or the 2013 class). After graduating from Lafayette next June, he will attend Fork Union Military Academy for a semester next fall and winter before moving on to Blacksburg.

Before Virginia Tech threw its proverbial hat in the ring, Smith already planned on attended FUMA for a postgraduate semester. The decision was made for two reasons.
