Davion Tookes , a Virginia Tech football recruit, was one of the members of Creekside High School’s (Fairburn, GA) state champion 4X100 relay squad this spring. The 5-11, 170-pound junior cornerback, now involved in Creekside football’s spring practice, ran the opening leg of the state championship final.

“I was able to get [a clean start],” said Tookes, who had Creekside “five to 10 meters” ahead of the competition after the first leg.

Nerves played no part in the 4A state final. In fact, Creekside’s time of 41.14 seconds was good for #1 in the state and #8 in the nation this outdoor track season.

“I just treated it like a regular race,” Tookes said. “When we were in warm-ups, I knew we were going to win. We showed up.”
