The Latest On Trey Edmunds

Dan River (Ringgold, VA) standout Trey Edmunds was one of the most productive two-way players in the state this past season, totaling 124 tackles with 8.5 sacks at linebacker and rushing for 1,324 yards (7.8 YPC) and 13 scores at running back. Maryland, where his father, Ferrell, played collegiately before moving on to a successful NFL career, North Carolina, Virginia and Virginia Tech have offered the 6-2, 200-pound prospect, who could be a force on either side of the ball on the next level.

“They love what he is capable of doing,” Ferrell Edmunds, who is also Dan River’s head football coach, said, referring to the coaches of the four schools that have offered. “Trey can take it all the way any time he touches the ball. He has speed and power, so there is a lot of upside on either side of the ball. He’s just 16.”

A multi-sport athlete, the younger Edmunds played varsity basketball and is now on the track team. Athletic commitments have kept him from visiting more schools this winter and spring, though he has been able to attend spring practices.

“He has gone to UNC to see a practice. He had an opportunity to get to a Virginia Tech practice and the UVa Spring Game,” Ferrell said. “We’re going to the Virginia Tech Spring Game. Hopefully, we’ll get to Maryland’s Spring Game on April 30, so there is an opportunity to get there.
