New Commit McKinnon Projected To Play Whip

Dahman McKinnon returned to his Hope Mills, North Carolina, home last Saturday as the newest member of Virginia Tech’s 2012 football recruiting class. In the 6-2, 200-pound junior, Virginia Tech gets a prospect that seems tailor made for the Whip linebacker spot. McKinnon certainly thought so, as position is a big reason why he committed Virginia Tech.

“I was really comfortable when I went there. They showed me a great time,” said McKinnon, a product of South View High School. “The coaches were really straightforward with me. It had everything I wanted. They are recruiting me to play a specific position (Whip) that is pretty much what I do now in high school, only it would be on the college level.”

Committing “surprised me a little bit,” McKinnon admits. “Going into the day, I was thinking I would probably wait. Going up there, though, it was perfect.”

McKinnon, who was accompanied by his mother and grandfather and in constant contact with his uncle (a Virginia Tech fan), recalled the point last Saturday when he started seriously thinking about pledging to the Hokies.
