Centreville Star Ekanem Adds Offers

Rutgers, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech recently came through and offered Centreville (Clifton, VA) defensive end/tight end Ken Ekanem , who now boasts seven scholarship offers in total. Boston College, Duke, Maryland and Virginia had offered previously, and North Carolina, Penn State and Tennessee are among the schools showing serious interest.

The 6-3, 230-pound junior has taken visits to Penn State, Virginia, and, most recently, Virginia Tech. He attended camp in Blacksburg but admits to being surprised by the offer, as Virginia Tech’s coaches had not been in contact over the course of last fall. A visit this past Saturday bolstered Tech’s standing.

“It was a great experience to be there, to learn more about the school, about the tutoring system and how they are always there to help,” Ekanem said. “It’s a big family there. The fans know all about the program. They know the coaches. That’s a good thing, and I’m considering Virginia Tech highly.

“[Coach Bud Foster] thinks I could be a dynamic defensive end. There are different packages, but he primarily wants me to play with my hand on the ground. He wants to let me loose to make plays, but he said I could also drop back in the flat in some packages.”
